Penland School of Crafts is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with it’s studios and lodgings built into the hills. I was there for a week studying The Practice of Public Art with Nancy Blum. I learned so much and was so sad to leave. Most mornings the mountains were obscured with fog but by the afternoon it looked like this. Ahh…
The fields were filled with wild flowers except where winding paths were mowed for creatives to wander on. I loved the spiral.
The dining hall was wrapped in a dramatic vine installation left behind by previous residents.
I discovered a beautiful scene created by an abandoned chair behind the ivy covered drawing and painting studio.
What a magical place. Meals were shared with people from far flung places coming together to learn, create and inspire each other. I can’t wait to go back someday!
